Calvary Baptist Church is first and foremost to bring glory and praise to the Sovereign Lord Jesus Christ and to raise up mature believers so that we can fulfill the Great commission. We will seek to achieve this by following the guidelines that God has put in place for prayer, worship, communion, Christian fellowship, Bible Study, and the expository teaching of God’s Word, which are the pillars of the church. “And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers” Acts 2:42.
- We affirm belief in the ‘Five Solas’: Sola Scriptura (by Scripture alone), Sola Fide (by faith alone), Sola Gratia (by grace alone), Solus Christus (through Christ alone), and Soli Deo Gloria (glory to God alone).
- We desire to provide the proper teaching of God’s Word so that fellow believers can grow together and edify one another with love and compassion.
- We desire for our church family to be equipped to: READ the Word, STUDY the Word, PRAY the Word, SING the Word, and LIVE the Word in and through their lives.
Magnify the Lord, Mature the Believers, Make prayer a priority, Meet the lost with Christ
Magnify the Lord: We need to demonstrate the importance that all services, (Sunday morning service, small groups, prayer meetings, or social fellowship events), must focus on the glory of God. “If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever”.. Amen. 1Peter 4:11
Mature the saints: We must encourage and help people to discover their spiritual gifts by providing spiritual education at every level in the local church. “for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ”, Eph 4:12
Make prayer a priority: We must teach believers the importance of prayer (private and corporate) as seen in the Bible. We need to show others that it is vital to a healthy, victorious Christian life. The local church must provide opportunity for believers to meet together for prayer. “I love the LORD, because He has heard My voice and my supplications. Because He has inclined His ear to me, Therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live”. Ps 116:1-2
Meet the lost with Christ: We begin first by living as lights in a community under darkness, or lifestyle evangelism. We must show the local body of believers the importance of evangelism as seen throughout the scriptures. By doing this, we will encourage the believer to be bold in sharing their faith while at the same time demonstrating it in their own lives. The local church must also equip the gifted saints within the church and send them out on local evangelistic missions such as street preaching, tract ministry, prisons, etc. There may be some within the church who are gifted for national or international long and short term missions. As Peter said “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defence to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; “ 1 Peter 3:15
